The Saint Albans Museum will host their Annual Meeting on Thursday, July 18 from 6-8pm (doors open at 5:30pm). The evening includes a free community dinner, annual reports & awards, Trustee elections, and a community conversation on local history. This event is free and open to the public (current Museum members are eligible to vote).

Enjoy the talents of vocalist Miriam Edele as she performs a selection of historic Vermont songs during dinner, featuring a menu of lasagna, salad and bread from Bove's (cash bar available). SAM will honor the inaugural winner of our "History Starts Here" Award - Arthur F. Bell, Jr. Following the meal and business meeting, there will be a discussion on the importance of community collaborations in preserving and sharing our local heritage. The panel includes Tim Smith (Mayor, City of St. Albans), Brendan Deso (Chair, St. Albans Town Selectboard), Liz Gamahce (former Mayor, City of St. Albans) and Kent Henderson (Board Chair, Friends of Northern Lake Champlain).

The purpose of SAM's "History Starts Here" award is to honor and celebrate distinguished service in community history for St. Albans, Franklin County, and northwestern Vermont - with recognition of advocacy, educational, historic preservation, and/or scholarly efforts. As a member of the "Rail City History Project" committee and the Museum, Art Bell has provided vital support for their work related to the history of the Central Vermont Railway and in the acquisition and display of Capt. Conger's Civil War saber. His dedication to hometown heritage has provided SAM with unparalleled opportunities to share the stories of the people, places, and events that define our region.

Bell grew up in St. Albans and graduated from Bellows Free Academy in 1960. After serving in the Marine Corps, he earned a degree from John Hopkins University and founded a CPA firm, Arthur Bell & Associates, in 1974. Bell semi-retired in 2017 to spend time with family and to enjoy traveling; he currently manages a consulting practice. In addition to his support of the Saint Albans Museum, Bell is a member of the Board of Directors for Stevenson University (MD), the Hippodrome Theater in Baltimore, and the Corvette Motorsports Park in Bowling Green (KY).

Reservations are requested; complimentary tickets are available online (https://stamuseum.org/event/sam-2019-annual-meeting/) or by calling the Saint Albans Museum at (802) 527-7933.

SAM is located at 9 Church Street in St. Albans (ADA-accessible).
