Colchester School District to host Outright Vermont
Two presentations will be free and open to the public.
The Colchester School District and Outright Vermont are excited to host two informational sessions
regarding youth, gender, and LGBTQ+ inclusivity facilitated by Mara Iverson.

The first session will take place on Wednesday, March 27th at 6:30 p.m. in the Malletts Bay School
Library
. This presentation will be focused on gender and is geared towards families and caregivers
of children in prekindergarten through grade 5. Find out how gender shows up in our lives and the
lives of our children and youth. Discover how we learn gender and teach it to others and the ways
we can interact with gender to make life easier or more difficult. Learn what we can do to make life
better for folks of all kinds of genders (transgender, nonbinary, girls, boys, and much more). And
importantly, find out how to talk about all of this complex stuff with your kids. There will be FREE
childcare at this session, provided by the Colchester Parks and Recreation Department.

The second session will take place on Tuesday, April 9th at 6:30 p.m. in the Colchester High School
Library
. This interactive workshop is geared towards grades 6-12 and will help families and
community members to increase fluency with LGBTQ+ inclusive concepts, terminology, and
practices. Participants will learn and practice approaches for making home and community
environments LGBTQ+ affirming. Participants will identify specific opportunities for and challenges
to inclusivity. They will leave with broader knowledge of LGBTQ+ youth topics, methods for
recognizing gaps in inclusivity, and ideas for how to apply affirming practices to fill those gaps.
Both sessions are free and open to the public. As noted, the session on March 27th will have free
childcare. For more than 25 years, Outright Vermont has worked to make it better for youth in
schools. They advocate, educate, and consult with students, staff, and administrators statewide to
ensure Vermont schools are doing their work to be safe, supportive and affirming to all students
regardless of their perceived or actual gender and sexual identity.
