YT Martha Pellerin Tribute 2019-05-05

Tribute to Martha Pellerin, the late champion of Franco-American culture in Vermont at Burlington's City Hall. Sponsored by Vermont Folklife Center and the Young Tradition Vermont Festival. Info: www.youngtraditionvermont.org

A tribute and memorial to the life and work of Martha Pellerin.  Martha was a musician and community organizer in the Franco-American community.  She grew up in Barre with her Québécois parents and her 6 brothers and sisters. When she saw her cultural traditions slowly disappearing into mainstream American culture—even within the Franco-American community—she became an active proponent of collecting and performing the music of her childhood and connecting newer generations of Franco-Americans to their cultural heritage.

This event will be hosted by Martha’s son Ian Drury.  Participants will include a variety of family and friends, including Andy Kolovos from the Vermont Folklife Center, Mark Sustic from Young Tradition Vermont, members of the Franco American Song Class with Carmen Beaudoin Bombardier and Kimberly Chase, Dana Whittle and Claude Methe, Benoit and Antoine Bourque, Michele Choiniere, Carol Reed and Festival Host Band Pete’s Posse.
