Senator Patrick Leahy (D-VT) and representatives of Vermont organizations that advocate for crime victims announce major grants for Vermont Crime Victim Services and Domestic and Sexual Violence Programs. Leahy, a former prosecutor, has long led in support for crime victims. His bill to strengthen and renew the Violence Against Women Act was signed into law in 2013. He is the top Democratic member of the Senate Judiciary Committee and the most senior member of the Appropriations Committee, which funds justice programs. Vermont will recieve more than $8.7 million from the U.S. Department for Justice to support victims of crime and enhance programs that serve survivors of domestic and sexual violence.
